Burning Over the Undersky
The city of Skycliff is hundreds of years old, and has had a long time to establish its ways. It trades with anyone and everyone, provided they follow the city’s rules. It is extremely cosmopolitan, allowing virtually any race to take up residence, provided they support the city in some fashion. One of the largest cities in the world, its isolation allows it to do business without interference from any kings or the like, and its inaccessibility ensures it will probably remain that way.
The cliffs have been magically hardened and are no longer in danger of eroding into the ocean, although many think the southern side of the city was allowed to suffer the indignity in order to establish the importance of keeping the Mages’ Guild happy. However, that event exposed the Underdark Grotto, the residents of which are now hungrily taking territory and negotiating with the Overcity, as they refer to Skycliff.
The Seaside Knifedge, as the southern portion is called, is where most of the less-savory incidents take place in Skycliff, and it is the area that has the most direct contact with the Grotto.
