Burning Over the Undersky
The Grotto is the name Skycliff’s residents have given to the exposed area of the Underdark that leads to the city of Tun’is’y’ill. It is an open, sea-facing cavern that has a ledge nearly at sea level. Inside is a hundred-foot-wide lake, with a forty-foot-wide rock face between it and the ocean. On the side furthest from the canyon wall is a small beach that leads to a deep cavern, which eventually wends one of its ways to the city.
The Grotto is technically not supposed to be accessible to the public; the residents are in negotiations with the City Council for trade and business, but until they are complete, it is illegal to go to the Grotto without a writ of business or under diplomatic aegis. That said, there are smugglers who trade with the residents and messengers who carry information back and forth.
Six large ropes dangle from the seaside edge of the Knifedge, used to allow single ambassadors or envoys to go back and forth. The height and difficulty tend to discourage unauthorized travel, but one rope is a rope ladder, although under the heaviest guard.
